One of the most important events in Grand Cayman is Pirates Week, which is a festival held in November each year. Pirates were legendry in the Caribbean, but their importance in the development of the Cayman Islands was not that significant. However, like in many other destinations, a past association has become the basis of a major event.

Batabano or Cayman Carnival Batabano (as it is officially called) is the name of the Caribbean Carnival held in the Cayman Islands. It is an annual event usually held the first weekend in May, with Batabano's Junior Carnival being held the Saturday Prior. Batabano was launched in 1984 and is undoubtedly one of the main highlights of Cayman's entertainment calendar.
The word Batabano is linked to the Islands' connection to turtles and is the word given to the tracks left by turtles when they drag themselves onto the beach to nest in the sand.

Other entertainment for tourists in the Cayman Islands is provided through private companies and the large hotels which offer a selection of events to enhance the visitor experience.
Cayman Cookout is a partnership between the Cayman Islands Government and The Ritz Carlton. A number of world famous chefs will offer tasting, demonstrations, tours and dinners that celebrate the barefoot elegance that only the Cayman Islands can deliver.
