Question: “Muhammad was only a religious leader.” Assess this claim.

Some would argue that Muhammad brought the Qur’an and was the ‘Seal of the Prophets’ and so his main role was religious.
 Others suggest Muhammad gave Muslims the perfect example of how to live a religious life and so his main role was religious.
 In addition, Muhammad was a humble vehicle of Allah in delivering a message to humanity so he is therefore religious.
 However, Muhammad was a also a good arbitrator, for example, in bringing between tribes in Madinah.
 He was also a social and political figure during his leadership of the people of Madinah in establishing clear rules by which to live.
 Another reason that Muhammad is more than just a religious leader is that Muhammad is seen as an inspirational leader in battle, fighting for his beliefs against polytheism and did more to achieve this than any other religious leaders through establishing Islam.
 In conclusion, I think that Muhammad was a leader in many ways but his role of a religious leader was most important.

Question: “The Qur’an is just another religious text.” Assess this claim.

Some argue that the teachings of the Qur’an are the literal words and message of God and is unique so it is not just another religious text.
 In addition, the teachings in the Qur’an are final and cannot be changed so in this way it is not just another religious text.
 The Qur’an is versatile, and offers essential guidance on public and private prayer, personal contemplation.
 This is relevant because it gives religious, social, moral guidance and is still used in education. Not all religious texts can do this therefore it is not just another religious text
 Against this, the Qur’an is the final revelation and there were other written messages before. For example, to Moses, David and Jesus and so it is one of several religious texts that have existed within Islam.
 It is used by Muslims in the same way other religious texts are, for example, in worship and giving guidance for life and is just another religious text.
 There are many religious texts in other religions and therefore it is just another religious text.
 In conclusion, I think it is just another religious text because Muslims use it and Muslims are clearly religious and it deals with God issues.
