  • A Although there may be some rain, these months are called the ‘dry season’. Sunny weather and clear skies are common during the day but it may be very cold at night.

  • B These months are the wettest part of the year and are known as the ‘long rains’. It rains most days although usually not all day long. Clouds are common.

  • C These months are the ‘short rains’. The rainfall is unpredictable. There may be some showers, usually in the afternoon. It is unlikely to rain all day long.

  • D This month has the biggest range of temperature (the difference between the maximum and minimum temperatures).

  • EThis month is one of three months where the temperature range is 9°C

  • F The main tourist safari season begins as it becomes easier to see the animals as the grass begins to turn brown and die.

  • G The number of tourists on safari declines as the rains arrive.

  • H Tourists on safari see plenty of animals gathered at the few remaining sources of water after so long with little rain.

  • I The grass begins to grow and the landscape begins to turn green as the amount of rainfall begins to increase.

  • J There is less chance of catching malaria as there are fewer mosquitoes because it is so dry.

  • K Many of the safari camps close as so few tourists will arrive to go on safari when it is so wet.
