One Direction's Facebook Profile is another source of marketing for the band.
How many marketing attempts can you see, just from this screenshot?
Cover picture is an advert for their most recent album along with details of where you can buy the album through a range of portals.
Profile picture is the same one as on Twitter and shows the band each holding a copy of the newest album so acting like further marketing material for their album
The bio area is used to remind fans that their “NEW album Made in the A.M. is OUT NOW” and the capitals are used for emphasis.
Although it isn’t a clickable link, the first web address on the right, can be copy and pasted into your browser taking you to iTunes so you can buy the album.
There is another web address that is a clickable link and this takes you to their official webpage for further promotion.
Facebook selects ‘featured content’ for you based on your interest in the page so that you can link to their page or watch a behind-the-scenes video.
Analyse the posts and evaluate what techniques they are using and how they are engaging with their fans.
Facebook is all about building relationships and growing your network of ‘friends’. However, as this is their promotional business page rather than their personal page, we cannot see how many friends they have, nor can we send them a friend request them. Instead, like Twitter, you can ‘follow’ them using the link or ‘like’ their page. In this sense, you will only see what they post publically.
Much of what One Direction posts on Facebook is the same as what they posted on Twitter, why do you think that is?
It allows their fans to connect with them in their own preferred way, some may not have a Twitter account but use Facebook every day, for example.
They don’t want any fans to think they are not getting the same information or are getting less information, depending on what platform they use to engage with them.
To save themselves time, they use an application which allows them to post the same content to all of their social media platforms at the same time e.g. Hootsuite
