The 6R’s are important to designers, manufacturers and consumers.
They are used by designers to reduce the environmental impact of products. They can also be used to evaluate the environmental impact of other products.
The 6Rs stand for:
Reduce - whether or not a fibre will break under tension
Rethink - how much a fibre can stretch until it breaks
Refuse - how much a fibre will stretch and regain its original shape
Recycle - the thickness of the fibre
Reuse - if a fibre contains ‘static’, it will be clingy and not drape well. Synthetic fibres are prone to static.
Repair - a slight shine
Manufacturers constantly need to consider cost efficient way to manufacture and cut costs.
Consumers have a responsibility to consider all of the 6R’shttps://practicalaction.org/sustainable-design-technology
