Factors that can contribute to falls would include:

  • balance problems that cause unsteadiness on feet (some conditions, such as stroke or Parkinson's, cause dizziness)

  • environmental factors such as wet floors, dim lighting, rugs or unsecure carpets, clutter, reaching for storage areas, going up or down stairs, rushing to get to the toilet or answer the door, opening windows.

  • not wearing trailing clothes that may be a hazard
  • medication review
  • regular sight tests
  • avoiding or reducing alcohol
  • install grip rails and handrails
