Our opinion is influenced by our attitudes, regardless of the fact if they are either positive or
negative.
A positive attitude from childcare workers can make children and families/carers feel good about themselves and
the setting. On the other hand, a negative attitude can lead to a feeling that children and their
families/carers are rejected and not valued. Therefore, the way that the childcare worker responds to children
and families/carers' requirements can influence them positively or negatively.
Children and young people develop if the environment is positive. You can ensure that the environment
is positive and inclusive by respecting everyone's values and lifestyle.
Children should see the childcare workers as people who interact and cooperate with everyone. By keeping
an open mind, children will see the childcare worker as a person who treats them with respect and shows an
interest in them and the world around them.
Good practice
- Giving children opportunities to participate by making decisions that will impact their
environment, allowing them to have ownership of their play area and feel comfortable.
- Do everything possible to ensure that all children are treated fairly.
- Give the children opportunities to develop and achieve according to their ability.
- Don't create negative images of children/young people and their families/carers; take time to talk to
them and get to know them.
- There are different methods of raising children and different families/carers will have different
opinions and beliefs about how to do this. This should be respected, whatever the personal opinion
of the childcare worker.
- Behavioural expectations need to be considered, promoting positive behaviour amongst staff,
children, young people and their families/carers.
- Children and their families/carers' language preference must be respected, and a child will not feel
confident if forced to use a different language. Welcome signs in multiple languages could be
introduced.
- By displaying positive attitudes children and families/carers will feel appreciated and this will avoid
discrimination and encourage feelings of self-worth.
- Displaying a negative attitude towards children and their families/carers will make them feel worthless
and reduce their self-esteem.
- You should not make presumptions about children and their families/carers by stereotyping. This can
affect children's ability to fully achieve and make families/carers feel dissatisfied with the setting.
- Children need to be given opportunities to do a variety of challenging activities without
undermining their ability to achieve.
- Childcare workers need to increase their knowledge and understanding of different cultures and family/carers
structures in order to be able to provide for the needs of all.
Caiff ein barn ei ddylanwadu gan ein hagweddau, boed rheini’n gadarnhaol neu’n negyddol.
Gall agwedd bositif gan gweithwyr gofal plant arwain at blant a theuluoedd/gofalwyr yn teimlo’n dda am eu hunain ac am y
lleoliad. Ar y llaw arall gall agwedd negyddol arwain at deimlad fod plant a’u teuluoedd/gofalwyr yn cael eu
gwrthod ac nad ydynt yn werthfawr. Felly gall y ffordd mae’r ymarferwr yn ymateb i ofynion plant a’u
teuluoedd/gofalwyr gael dylanwad positif neu negyddol arnynt.
Mae plant a phobl ifanc yn datblygu os yw’r amgylchedd yn un positif. Gellir sicrhau fod yr
amgylchedd yn un cadarnhaol a chynhwysol wrth barchu gwerthoedd a ffordd pawb o fyw.
Dylai blant ystyried yr gweithwyr gofal plant yn bobl sy’n rhyngweithio a chydweithredu gyda phawb. Trwy berchen
ar feddwl agored bydd plant yn gweld yr ymarferwr fel person sy’n eu trin a pharch ac sy’n dangos
diddordeb ynddynt hwy a’r byd o’u hamgylch.
Arfer da
- rhoi cyfleodd i blant gymryd rhan trwy wneud dewisiadau a fydd yn cael effaith ar eu hamgylchedd
gan ganiatáu iddynt gael perchnogaeth o’u man chwarae ac i deimlo’n gyffyrddus
- gwneud popeth sy’n bosib er mwyn sicrhau bod pob plentyn yn cael eu trin yn deg
- rhoi cyfleoedd i’r plant ddatblygu a chyflawni yn ôl eu gallu
- peidio creu delweddau negyddol o blant/pobl ifanc a’u teuluoedd/gofalwyr gan gymryd amser i siarad â hwy a
dod i’w hadnabod
- mae yna ddulliau gwahanol o fagu plant ac fe fydd gan deuluoedd/gofalwyr gwahanol farn a chred ar sut i
wneud hyn. Dylid parchu hyn, beth bynnag yw barn bersonol yr ymarferwr
- mae angen ystyried disgwyliadau ymddygiad gan hyrwyddo ymddygiad cadarnhaol ymysg staff, plant,
pobl ifanc a’u teuluoedd/gofalwyr
- rhaid parchu dewis iaith plant a’u teuluoedd/gofalwyr ac ni fydd plentyn yn teimlo’n hyderus os caiff ei
orfodi i ddefnyddio iaith wahanol. Gellid cyflwyno arwyddion croeso mewn sawl iaith
- wrth arddangos agweddau positif bydd plant a theuluoedd/gofalwyr yn teimlo eu bod yn cael eu gwerthfawrogi
gan osgoi gwahaniaethu ac annog teimladau o hunanwerth
- bydd arddangos agwedd negyddol tuag at blant a’u teuluoedd/gofalwyr yn gwneud iddynt deimlo’n ddiwerth ac
yn lleihau eu hunan-barch.
- ni ddylid gwneud rhagdybiaethau am blant a’u teuluoedd/gofalwyr drwy stereoteipio. Gall hyn effeithio ar
allu plant i gyflawni’n llawn a gwneud teuluoedd/gofalwyr i deimlo’n anfodlon gyda’r lleoliad
- mae angen rhoi cyfleoedd i blant ymgymryd ag amrywiaeth o weithgareddau heriol heb danseilio eu
gallu i gyflawni
- mae angen i’r gweithwyr gofal plant gynyddu eu gwybodaeth a’u dealltwriaeth o ddiwylliannau gwahanol a
strwythurau teuluoedd/gofalwyr er mwyn gallu darparu ar gyfer anghenion pawb.
