CHANGES IN BIODIVERSITY - TODAY

Climate change could alter the type of plants and animals found in Wales

Changes already noticed in Wales

Warmer temperatures and earlier start to spring has affected the life cycles of

  • trees
  • birds
  • butterflies
Warmer sea temperatures have led to

  • shortage of sand eels
  • food shortage for birds
  • large scale seabird breeding failure in 2004

Climate changes in other parts of the world affect

  • migrating birds from the north that winter in Wales
  • birds from the south who may move into Wales e.g. little egret, Cetti’s warbler, Dartford warbler
